WEICON WEICONLOCK AN 305-11 Anaerobic Thread Sealant is an anaerobic industrial adhesive solution developed to provide sealing in pipe threads and threaded connections. Thanks to its high-viscosity, medium-strength structure, it helps reduce leak risk by filling the clearances in the joint. Its medium-strength profile is intended to maintain the advantage of being removable with standard hand tools when servicing is required. With its suitability approach for drinking-water applications, it offers a profile that can be preferred in plumbing and process lines where hygiene requirements are important.

Sealing in pipe and threaded connections with AN 305-11

This product works as an anaerobic, resin-based industrial adhesive that cures in narrow gaps between metal surfaces when contact with air is cut off. While helping close capillary leak paths inside the threads, it also supports reducing the tendency to loosen under vibration. It is white and non-fluorescent, providing practical visibility for post-application visual inspection. It is specified for use on threaded connections up to M80 (R 3”) and contributes to tolerance management with a maximum gap-bridging capability of 0.4 mm.

Technical performance and strength approach

With a high viscosity range of 17,000–50,000 mPa·s, the product supports controlled application without running on the thread and makes it easier to form a continuous sealing line. Breakaway torque is specified as 7–10 Nm and prevailing torque as 2–4 Nm; these values align with the service-removability goal of the medium-strength class. Shear strength is stated as 4–6 N/mm² according to DIN 54452 and targets a stable bond line for thread-sealing tasks. Temperature resistance is given as -60 °C to +150 °C, matching typical operating conditions in many plumbing and process lines.

Drinking water, standards, and process compatibility

The suitability approach for DVGW and drinking-water applications can make this industrial adhesive sealing material a selection criterion for hygiene-critical lines. The Hygiene Institute reference UBA KTW-BWGL supports the perspective of use in systems associated with drinking water. In pressure resistance evaluations, example limits are defined depending on connection size; for instance, up to 1500 bar for some smaller sizes and lower values for larger sizes. Therefore, connection geometry and service conditions should be considered together in real applications.

Application method and surface preparation

For best results, surfaces should be cleaned of oil, dirt, and loose oxides; a clean metal surface directly affects sealing performance. The product should be applied evenly using the dispensing tip, and care should be taken not to let the tip contact metal directly. On pipe threads, the material is applied in circular movements, the parts are assembled, and tightening is carried out until the desired orientation is achieved. For flange sealing applications, a continuous bead is applied to one flange surface, and the parts are assembled and tightened quickly.

Curing time, storage, and areas of use

Handling strength develops within 20–40 minutes, and full strength is expected to develop within 5–10 hours; therefore, loading should be planned in a controlled way during the first hours. The product is stated to have a storage stability of at least 24 months at room temperature in its unopened original packaging and should be protected from heat sources and direct sunlight. It can be considered for sealing in compressed-air installations, process lines, valve and fitting connections, and general piping applications. The manufacturer is WEICON GmbH & Co.
