Weicon Thread Sealing Cord DF-175 175 m is a 100% PTFE-based thread sealing cord developed to provide sealing in metal and plastic threaded connections. During tightening, it fills the clearance between the threads, forming a PTFE film layer of the required thickness and offering a long-lasting sealing approach in the joint. Compared with tape-type solutions, it allows installation teams to wind it more precisely and apply it more neatly. The manufacturer is WEICON, and the company is based in Germany.

Sealing approach with DF-175
Unlike some alternatives based on the “carrier cord + separate sealing paste” concept, DF-175 is defined as a sealing material on its own. In this way, it focuses on reducing problems that can arise from separation between the base material and the sealing layer over the service life of a threaded joint. Remaining soft and elastic rather than hardening and becoming brittle after application provides practical advantages in maintenance and inspection processes. When rework is needed on the same connection, the behavior of the film layer is more predictable.

PTFE-based structure and performance characteristics
The product is made of 100% PTFE and is positioned to form a PTFE film of the required thickness on the threads during tightening. The resulting film layer is described as targeting high resistance to many chemicals, including aggressive solvents, alkaline environments, and acids. Being non-flammable provides an advantageous framework for risk management in industrial installation areas. In addition, the information that it has an “unlimited shelf life” is a practical detail that simplifies date management in maintenance stock.

Chemical and temperature resistance
DF-175’s chemical resistance approach strengthens the rationale for choosing it in applications where the connection may be exposed to various process fluids. Since the temperature range is given as -200 °C to +240 °C, it can be considered when selecting a sealing solution for lines operating at very low or high temperatures. These values support technical planning especially in outdoor installations or systems with high thermal fluctuations. For sealing performance continuity, choosing the correct thread geometry and winding the cord evenly remain critical.

Application method and winding turns
Before application, it is recommended to clean and degrease the parts; this helps the film layer form evenly on the threads. The cord is wound in the same direction as the thread, starting from the beginning (front end) of the pipe; leaving sufficient material at the pipe end is important for maintaining continuity of the sealing line. Two to three drops of the lubricant contained in the removable base of the packaging are applied to the cord and spread with a finger; the lubricant is stated to be harmless and biodegradable. The lubricant must not be used together with liquid oxygen; this warning should be considered for process safety. As examples for winding turns, 12 turns for 1/2″ fine thread and 18 turns for 1/2″ coarse thread are recommended; for 1 1/2″, 16 turns for fine thread and 24 turns for coarse thread are recommended, and it is emphasized that the number of turns should be adjusted according to pipe diameter.

Areas of use and key advantages
The product is positioned for sealing in metal and plastic threaded connections, as well as in pipe and fitting installations, compensating for gaps after assembly by means of the PTFE film layer. Remaining elastic supports maintaining the sealing line on the connection and can make it easier for maintenance teams to standardize application. From an economy standpoint, it is stated that one spool can correspond to many rolls of PTFE tape, which can be evaluated for consumption management and inventory optimization. The presence of an ISSA code for procurement/specification processes is also a detail that can ease matching in corporate purchasing workflows.

Storage and quality management
It is recommended to store DF-175 in its unopened original packaging at room temperature and keep it away from heat sources and direct sunlight. It is stated that the air inside the packaging supports storage stability; therefore, maintaining packaging integrity is important. For assembly, occupational safety, and environmental conditions, it is noted that the relevant safety documentation should be taken into account.
