Weicon Contact VA 1460 Cyanoacrylate Adhesive 30 g is a single-component industrial adhesive developed for special requirements. Its medium viscosity and relatively slower-curing behavior increase control in fast assembly while making part positioning more manageable. Its odorless or very low-odor working characteristics and low “blooming” effect suit processes aiming for a cleaner finish in precision assemblies. After curing, the bond line is less sensitive to moisture, supporting stable performance under varying ambient conditions.
VA 1460 industrial adhesive: chemical structure and product description
This industrial adhesive is an alkoxy-based cyanoacrylate in liquid form with a colorless/transparent character, and it remains colorless after curing. Being silicone-free and hydroquinone-free offers an approach that can help reduce surface incompatibility and residue risks in certain production processes. The medium-viscosity range (120–200 mPa·s) provides a balanced application feel between flow control in thin bond lines and proper surface wetting. With a maximum gap-bridging capability of up to 0.15 mm, it should be evaluated with tight-fitting parts and thin bond lines in mind.
Curing behavior, strength, and temperature resistance
VA 1460 has a curing profile that can range from seconds to minutes for initial bonding on different materials, and full strength typically develops within 24 hours. After full cure, lap shear strength is given—depending on surface preparation—as 13–18 MPa on steel and 8–12 MPa on aluminum, supporting the goal of a reliable bond line in general assembly applications. Temperature resistance is -50 °C to +80 °C, with short-term resistance up to +100 °C. This range provides flexibility for indoor equipment and industrial environments with moderate thermal cycles.
Application method and surface preparation
For successful bonding, keeping surfaces clean and dry is considered critical; dust, dirt, and moisture can negatively affect adhesion. This industrial adhesive should be applied to only one of the surfaces, and the bond line thickness should be kept at approximately 0.05–0.2 mm; thicker layers can make full curing more difficult. For large bonding areas, a spot-application approach is recommended to help reduce internal stresses, and in practice one drop may be sufficient for an area of 3–5 cm². After application, parts should be joined quickly and fixtured if possible, because curing starts with ambient moisture and delays can affect performance.
Difficult plastics, supporting products, and storage
For difficult-to-bond plastics such as PE, PP, POM, and PTFE, and also for TPE and silicone, using a CA primer is recommended to strengthen surface preparation and target a more stable bond line. A relative humidity range of 40%–70% is important for consistent curing; very low humidity can significantly slow curing, while high humidity and some alkaline surfaces can create a risk of instant curing. For storage, it is stated that the unopened package has a shelf life of at least 9 months at room temperature, and that storage at +2 °C to +7 °C can extend shelf life to 12 months. The product is positioned within the WEICON Contact series developed by WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany).
