Weicon WEICONLOCK® AN 302-80 Anaerobic Thread Sealant is an anaerobic industrial adhesive developed for sealing pipe and threaded connections on passive metals. Because it belongs to a high-strength class, it helps reduce the risk of the joint loosening unintentionally during service. With its medium-to-high viscosity, it spreads in a controlled way on threads and lowers leak risk by filling gaps. As a drinking-water-approved solution, it can be considered for process lines under appropriate procedures. It is of WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) origin.
Pipe and thread sealing on passive metals with AN 302-80
This industrial adhesive offers a broad application range, specified for threaded connections up to M36. A maximum gap-bridging capacity of 0.2 mm supports sealing performance on properly toleranced threads. Its green, fluorescent appearance makes it easier to visually check the application area. Because it is in a high-strength “hard to disassemble” class, it is important to define the service approach in advance for joints that may need to be removed during maintenance. In this respect, it is positioned as a strong industrial adhesive option for lines where both sealing and connection stability are required.
Technical performance range and strength approach
The product’s Brookfield viscosity at +25 °C is given as 3,000–6,000 mPa·s, indicating a thick character that helps limit running on threads. With breakaway torque stated as 15–20 Nm and prevailing torque as 25–30 Nm, resistance to loosening under vibration is targeted. Shear strength according to DIN 54452 is given as 20–30 N/mm², indicating an industrial adhesive class that contributes to the joint’s mechanical stability. Initial strength forms within 5–10 minutes at room temperature, and full strength is reached within 6–12 hours; commissioning should be planned accordingly. Temperature resistance is specified as -60 °C to +200 °C, allowing use in equipment exposed to variable temperatures. The minimum shelf life at room temperature is stated as 24 months.
Anaerobic curing principle and standards compliance
This is a single-component anaerobic system that cures where oxygen is excluded between metal surfaces, creating sealing and locking effects. Since reliable results on passive materials can depend more on surface preparation, degreasing has a significant impact on performance. Having the drinking-water approval approach and “Hygiene Institute UBA KTW-BWGL” compliance provides a usage framework for certain facility standards. This supports a more controlled selection of an industrial adhesive, especially in lines and connections that may come into contact with drinking water. In series production or repeated applications, standardizing dosing contributes to consistent quality.
Application method and industry use areas
In application, it is applied evenly around the thread in a circular manner, the pipe thread is assembled and tightened to the desired alignment; for flange sealing, a continuous bead is applied to one side of the flange and the parts are quickly assembled. Not allowing the dosing nozzle to touch metal and not pouring product that has contacted metal back into the bottle are important to prevent unwanted curing inside the packaging. It can be used wherever thread sealing is needed in hydraulic/pneumatic connections, water and process lines, pump–valve fittings, compressor installations, and general machine maintenance. In food and drinking-water infrastructure, it can be considered under appropriate procedures for connections requiring drinking-water approval. It also offers an industrial adhesive approach as an alternative to methods such as PTFE tape for addressing micro-leaks frequently encountered by maintenance teams.
