WEICON UW water-resistant mineral-filled epoxy system 2 kg is a two-component epoxy resin system designed to provide adhesion even on wet, damp, and even underwater surfaces. Its paste-like consistency improves control on vertical applications and makes it easier to fill voids and shape the repair area. In such work, not only “industrial adhesive” performance but also reliable bonding in moisture-challenged environments is critical, so the UW epoxy system is a practical solution for maintenance and repair. The manufacturer is WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany), and the product is part of WEICON’s epoxy resin systems range.

Technical structure and key parameters of the UW epoxy system
The UW system is epoxy-based, mineral-filled, white in color, and has a paste consistency that helps control spreading during application. The mixing ratio is defined as 100:83 by weight and 100:95 by volume, and adhering to these ratios is necessary for consistent results in the field. The mixture density is about 1.5 g/cm³, and consumption at a 1.0 mm layer thickness is given as 1.5 kg/m²; the recommended maximum layer thickness in a single application is 10 mm. At 20 °C, the pot life for a 500 g mix is 30 minutes, so working in small batches improves process control. The product can be used for repair/filling in damp conditions and, with proper surface preparation, can also be applied to form a strong bond on the part with an “industrial adhesive” approach.

Strength, temperature resistance, and process window
Once curing is complete, tensile strength reaches 31 MPa and compressive strength 65 MPa; Shore D hardness is stated as 75±3. Adhesion (tensile adhesive strength) is reported as 25 MPa, and lap shear strength on blasted steel is 21 MPa, with values up to 24 MPa on stainless steel. Temperature resistance is specified from -35 °C to +160 °C, providing a suitable operating range for maintenance and repair on many plant assets. At 20 °C, it reaches recoatable status after about 7 hours, functional strength after 12 hours, and full strength after 36 hours, making work planning in scheduled shutdowns more predictable. This performance profile combines the advantage of bonding in humid environments with mechanical strength for users seeking an “industrial adhesive.”

Application method, surface preparation, and sector-based uses
The main requirement for successful application is surface preparation: oil, grease, dirt, rust, oxides, and paint residues must be removed, and if possible, cleanliness close to SA 2½ should be achieved by blasting. An optimum roughness range of 75–100 µm is recommended, making it easier for the paste to “key into” the surface. When preparing the mix, maintaining the ratios, mixing homogeneously, and mixing only the amount that can be applied within the working time is recommended. The product stands out for repair and reconditioning work on pipes, pumps, tanks, and containers; in marine and inland water applications; in wastewater systems; and in any maintenance task where moisture makes bonding difficult. Where underwater or wet-surface repairs are required, it offers a more stable application approach in cases where conventional solutions struggle.

Standards, storage, and safe-use notes
ISSA and IMPA codes are defined for the product, which helps classification in industrial supply and maintenance inventory management. Minimum shelf life at room temperature is stated as 36 months; storing the container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated area is important for product stability. When working with epoxy systems, using appropriate personal protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contact, ensuring ventilation in enclosed areas to reduce vapor/aerosol accumulation, and preventing environmental release are the basic safety approach. Not exposing the repaired surface to mechanical loads before it has fully cured helps achieve the intended strength. When used with the right process, the UW epoxy system is positioned as a reliable filling/repair solution and an “industrial adhesive” alternative even in damp conditions.
