WEICON Special Developer Spray for Penetrant Crack Testing 500 ml

WEICON Special Developer Spray for Penetrant Crack Testing 500 ml is an aerosol technical spray developer used to make indications visible in non-destructive testing performed with the dye penetrant (PT) method. The solvent-based, white developer film highlights the penetrant that “bleeds back” from the surface by creating contrast, helping defects be seen more clearly. Its silicone-free structure supports reducing the risk of unwanted residue in processes where post-test surface treatments are planned. The product is developed by WEICON GmbH & Co. KG, based in Germany.

Role of the special developer technical spray in penetrant inspection
This technical spray developer aims to make cracks and discontinuities stand out as red lines/dots by creating a white background on the surface after penetrant application and intermediate cleaning. The developer layer is positioned as a visualization step that supports the penetrant flowing back out of the defect (back-bleed). It is stated to be usable not only on metals but also on ceramics, glass, and many plastics; for plastics, suitability should be checked on a small area in advance. This approach helps improve repeatability of results in workshop environments where serial inspections are performed.

Performance framework and material compatibility of the special developer
The solvent-based developer formula with high color stability is designed to make surface defects visible reliably. The product is white and has a solvent-like odor; for this type of technical spray, good ventilation is a proper field safety practice. Being silicone-free is an advantage that supports process compatibility in lines where painting or similar operations are carried out after inspection. A minimum shelf life of 24 months at room temperature provides a practical framework for stock management by maintenance and quality teams.

Application method and correct visualization steps
An application temperature range of 0°C to +50°C is recommended for stable progression of penetrant inspection steps. The developer is sprayed onto the cleaned surface from a distance of about 20 cm, applied only enough to create a white background, with the aim of covering the surface completely. In this technical spray step, avoiding excessive application is important; too much developer can mask fine cracks and weaken indications. Shortly after application, defects become visible, and a waiting approach of typically 5–10 minutes is used for the final visual inspection.

Areas of use and industry scenarios
WEICON crack inspection developer is preferred in quality control processes where PT inspection is carried out on weld seams, cast parts, and machined metal surfaces. In sectors such as metal fabrication, maintenance and repair, automotive supply industries, energy equipment, and general machine manufacturing, the technical spray form provides field practicality for rapid screening and confirmatory checks of suspicious areas. On lines where many parts are inspected, aerosol application helps with uniform coating and easier time management. When used in the correct penetrant–cleaner–developer sequence, it helps defect detection be carried out more clearly and consistently.
