Weicon SF DNV-certified steel-filled epoxy system is a two-component industrial adhesive and repair composite developed for rapid repair, gap filling, and shaping on metal surfaces. Its paste-like consistency helps reduce sagging on vertical applications, and it is designed to provide high adhesion to metal substrates with proper surface preparation. The steel-filled structure is intended to support mechanical strength and surface integrity in the repaired area. The product is manufactured by Germany-based WEICON GmbH & Co. KG and is suitable for use cases covered by DNV type approval.

Technical structure and product characteristics of the SF steel-filled epoxy system
This system is based on epoxy resin and is supplied as a fast-curing formulation containing steel filler. Because it can be used for both bonding and repair, it provides an industrial adhesive approach that allows maintenance teams to proceed with a single product on site. The mixing ratio is 100:33 by weight, and it is recommended to prepare a homogeneous, bubble-free mix. The product is also described as a composite with magnetic properties; this can be considered in terms of compatibility with the operating conditions of the equipment being repaired.

Performance characteristics and resistance limits of the SF epoxy
After curing, the typical Shore D hardness is 82±3, supporting form stability in metal surface repairs. Typical values are reported as 21 MPa for pull-off adhesion strength and 13 MPa lap shear strength on blast-cleaned steel; values around 16 MPa are also provided for stainless steel. For wear behavior, a typical loss value of 0.6 g / 0.3 cm³ is reported in the Taber test (H18, 1 kg, 1000 cycles), indicating a goal of contributing to longer service life in areas with intense mechanical contact. While the product data specifies a temperature resistance range of -35 °C to +90 °C, the DNV type approval document limits the maximum service temperature to 50 °C without additional testing; whether the application falls under marine class requirements makes this limit critical.

Mixing, application method, and curing management
Before application, it is recommended to pre-mix the resin component, then blend the two components thoroughly for at least two minutes without introducing air bubbles. At 20 °C, the pot life for a 500 g mix is approximately 5 minutes, so the batch size should be planned in small portions according to the workable time. It is stated that about 80% working strength is reached after roughly 1 hour, and full strength is targeted around 6 hours; in practice, ambient temperature directly affects these times. Applying quickly with a spatula to the required thickness, distributing evenly, and avoiding air entrapment are key to performance.

Surface preparation, standards, and DNV-focused field details
Because oil, grease, dirt, rust, oxides, and paint residues reduce adhesion, the surface must be cleaned completely. For heavy-duty repairs, grinding or preferably grit blasting is recommended; a cleanliness level of SA 2½ and a surface profile of 75–100 µm are cited as targets. For metal surfaces exposed to seawater or saline solutions, it is recommended to remove salt residues before coating and to perform checks such as soluble salt testing; this is important for maintaining industrial adhesive performance, especially in marine applications. The product is also positioned within a framework that supports traceability in industrial supply and class processes through references such as DNV rules and ISSA/IMPA codes.

Sector-specific applications and compatible surfaces
This type of steel-filled epoxy system can be used for emergency repair of leaking pipelines, material rebuilding on housings and gear casings, anchoring and fastening areas, and the production of various fixtures/connecting elements. Machine manufacturing and maintenance, tool/mold making, model making, and the marine industry are among its prominent application areas. With suitable surface preparation, strong adhesion is targeted on metal substrates such as blast-cleaned steel and stainless steel; on galvanized surfaces, the outcome is strongly influenced by surface condition and cleanliness, as suggested by the typical values. Thanks to its paste consistency and fast curing, it is positioned as a practical industrial adhesive and repair solution aimed at reducing downtime in the field.
