Hylomar Universal Blue Fuel and Gas Resistant 100 g is a non-setting industrial sealing compound developed to provide sealing on flanged surfaces and threaded connections. Because it does not cure and harden, it allows the joint to move under vibration, flexing, and thermal expansion after assembly. Applied as a thin film, it tolerates minor surface irregularities and supports more controlled separation of parts during maintenance. With proper surface preparation and correct assembly, it is a practical joint solution focused on reducing leak risk.
Universal Blue sealing compound: product description and chemical structure
This product is a polyester-urethane based sealing compound designed to retain its non-setting and non-hardening character even at elevated temperatures. The formulation allows the solvent to flash off after application and leaves a thin film on the surface to support sealing performance. It can be used for joint sealing on flange mating faces as well as on threaded parts. In connections that require metal-to-metal contact, the film layer improves surface conformity and helps with serviceability. The product is manufactured by Hylomar Ltd in the United Kingdom.
Performance and resistance in fuel and gas environments
Manufacturer technical documentation states broad compatibility with industrial fuels and oils, water and brine, air, turbine and piston engine combustion products, water-glycol and methanol mixtures, fuels such as gasoline and kerosene, and certain fluorocarbon refrigerants. Since the operating temperature range is specified as -50 °C to +250 °C, it is suitable for creating a reliable buffer layer in areas of engines and process equipment exposed to temperature fluctuations. Maintaining sealing under flange face distortion and high-vibration conditions is targeted, supporting leak control in demanding assemblies. Its non-staining behavior near metals such as copper and silver at elevated temperatures can be an advantage for connections close to switching mechanisms. The temperature range is also indicated in the technical document with the MSRR9055 reference, and this information can be used for design verification.
Application method and assembly control
For best results, surfaces should be clean and dry, free of oil, dirt, and old gasket residues. The product is applied as a thin film or a fine bead to one or both surfaces, then left briefly to allow the solvent to evaporate. Thanks to its non-setting nature, precise alignment during assembly becomes easier and the time pressure after application is reduced. Due to the characteristics of the compound, some joints may require re-torquing of bolts and nuts to maintain correct torque. Depending on the viscosity grade, the typical coverage range for 100 g is given as 0.56–1.875 m²; this helps planning based on application thickness. If a pressure or leak test will be performed, it is recommended to proceed with appropriate waiting and control steps aligned with process conditions.
Storage, occupational safety, and ease of maintenance
It is stated that residues during disassembly and overhaul can be removed by wiping with a cloth moistened with acetone, often reducing the need for scraping. The product should be stored in a cool, dry place with adequate ventilation, within an approximate range of 5–25 °C. Since safety documentation notes dichloromethane content, ventilation and personal protective equipment procedures must be followed for enclosed-area applications. Although the product is stated as non-flammable, general chemical safety rules should still be maintained during storage and use. A 100 g tube format is available, making it a practical option for field maintenance teams.
Sector-based applications and compatible surfaces
This industrial sealing compound is used to reduce leak risk in metal-to-metal joints and, in many applications, plastic-to-plastic joints. In automotive and heavy-duty maintenance, it is commonly applied to areas such as water and oil pumps, cylinder heads, crankcase/sump zones, intake manifolds, timing covers, and oil pump joints. It is also preferred on gearbox and transmission components and in threaded sealing applications due to serviceability and vibration tolerance. In manufacturing and process industries, its use is noted for equipment assembly such as gas turbines, water-cooled generators, and turbo vacuum systems. In electrical and infrastructure applications, it is considered for weather-proofing of motors and for certain joints on outdoor high-voltage circuit breakers. The ability to apply it as a coating to improve the performance of pre-formed gaskets provides flexibility in maintenance. By selecting a suitable application thickness, it can be used across a wide range of surface finishes, from finely machined to rougher machined surfaces.
