WEICON ST metal-filled anti-corrosive epoxy system is a two-component epoxy resin system designed for repair and surface refurbishment, mainly on stainless-steel equipment. Its paste-like consistency improves control on vertical surfaces and makes void filling and surface shaping more practical. With its metal-filled and “non-corrosive” character, it aims to form a repair layer suitable for aggressive service conditions in maintenance and repair. The product is manufactured by WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany).

Structure and key process parameters of the WEICON ST epoxy system
The base is epoxy and the filler is specified as stainless steel; the color is light grey. The mixing ratio is 100:50 by weight and by volume, and maintaining this ratio is necessary for consistent results in the field. With a mixture viscosity of 550,000 mPa·s at +25 °C, it stays in place and is suitable for shaping with a spatula without running off. Consumption at a 1.0 mm layer is given as 1.7 kg/m², and the recommended maximum layer thickness in a single application is 10 mm; for larger voids, progressing with mechanical reinforcement is a more appropriate approach. These properties make it functional for both filling/repair work and “industrial adhesive” applications that require strong surface bonding.

Strength profile and temperature–corrosion approach
After curing, tensile strength is 48 MPa and compressive strength is 96 MPa; Shore D hardness is stated as 85±3, aiming for a hard, functional repair layer. Adhesion strength is 14 MPa, and lap shear strength on blasted stainless steel is reported as 15 MPa, so with proper surface preparation a reliable “industrial adhesive” performance can be expected. Temperature resistance is specified from -35 °C to +120 °C, which provides a sufficient working range for maintenance and repair on many process assets. Shrinkage is given as 0.14%, indicating behavior intended to support dimensional stability in filled areas. The inclusion of a Taber wear test result suggests that ST can be considered not only for bonding but also for surface refurbishment/repair use cases.

Curing time and application window
At 20 °C, the working time for a 500 g mix is 60 minutes, so preparing only the amount that can be applied improves process control. At 20 °C, it is stated to reach recoatable status after about 6 hours, functional strength after 9 hours, and full strength after 12 hours, making step-by-step progress easier during planned shutdowns. The recommended application temperature range is +15 °C to +40 °C, and relative humidity should be kept below 85%. This window provides a practical framework for teams that want to manage both “industrial adhesive” and filling work within the same shift.

Application method, compatible surfaces, and sector-based uses
For successful results, the surface should be free of oil, grease, rust, oxides, and paint residues; blasting to a cleanliness level close to SA 2½ is preferred, and a roughness of 75–100 µm is recommended. For maximum adhesion, working a thin first coat into the surface with crosswise motions, then building up to the required thickness without entrapping air bubbles, is recommended. WEICON ST is positioned for repair and maintenance work on stainless-steel equipment such as tanks, pipelines, containers, hoppers, and flanges, with use scenarios highlighted in industries such as chemicals, marine/inland water transport, wastewater systems, and the paper industry. In these types of applications, the product can be evaluated both as a repair paste that reshapes the surface and as an “industrial adhesive” solution that bonds securely to the substrate.
