WEICON WEICONLOCK® AN 306-48 is a single-component anaerobic industrial adhesive used as a retaining compound for assembling cylindrical parts. It cures in air-excluded areas between metal surfaces, aiming to create a high-strength, hard-to-disassemble bond. Its medium-viscosity consistency helps it remain controlled in the application area and safely fill the assembly clearance. The green color makes it easier to visually monitor product distribution during application.

What is the AN 306-48 retaining compound used for?
This industrial adhesive focuses on reducing loosening in cylindrical fits such as bearing housings, bearing seats on shafts, and bushing/sleeve assemblies. In assemblies where tolerances have increased due to wear, it compensates for the gap within a limited range to provide more stable seating. Its hard-to-disassemble bond characteristic can help improve assembly security in equipment exposed to vibration and thermal cycling. It is also positioned as suitable for threaded connections up to M20, supporting standardization in maintenance processes.

Chemical structure and technical performance
Because AN 306-48 is an anaerobically curing system, it hardens particularly at metal-to-metal interfaces where oxygen is excluded, which is the typical retaining mechanism for cylindrical assemblies. Since the maximum gap-filling capacity is specified as 0.15 mm, it is important to keep the assembly tolerance within this limit during application. Shear strength is stated as 25–35 N/mm² according to DIN 54452, indicating a strong industrial adhesive profile that supports load transfer in cylindrical joints. The product is classified as “high-temperature resistant” and is stated to have BAM approval; drinking water approval information is also noted on the product page.

Curing behavior and temperature resistance
Reaching handling strength in about 5 minutes at room temperature helps the part maintain its position shortly after assembly. Full strength developing within 2–4 hours at room temperature makes the process predictable during planned maintenance shutdowns. Temperature resistance is given as -60 °C to +175 °C, aiming for a safer service range in mechanical joints that may be exposed to higher temperatures. For threaded applications, breakaway torque is reported as 30–35 Nm and prevailing torque as 55–70 Nm, clarifying expectations in terms of joint security and disassembly difficulty.

Application method and surface preparation
For best results, surfaces are recommended to be clean and free of oil; however, the system is stated to tolerate slightly oily surfaces to some extent. The product should be applied as a thin, even film using the dosing tip on the package, and it is important that the dosing tip does not touch metal. For press fits and larger cylindrical assemblies, applying a thin layer to both surfaces improves bond uniformity. For blind holes, filling the hole with a sufficient amount of product helps reduce trapped air in voids. Product that has contacted metal should not be poured back into the bottle, as even tiny metal particles can cause premature curing inside the packaging.

Areas of use and operational advantages
Typical applications in machine maintenance and overhaul include restoring bearing housings, assembling bushing/sleeve joints, and securely fixing bearing seats on shafts. It can be preferred to reduce loosening risk in cylindrical joints around gearboxes, conveyor drive elements, and assembly points exposed to heat. Its medium viscosity helps it stay in the application area without running off, providing control in field applications. The single-component anaerobic structure eliminates mixing errors and offers a practical industrial adhesive solution for teams seeking repeatable results.

Storage and safe-use notes
It is stated that it can be stored for at least 24 months at room temperature in the unopened original container; keeping it away from heat sources and direct sunlight is recommended. In anaerobic products, the air inside the package helps keep the product liquid, so it is important to follow proper bottle/tube handling discipline. When working with chemical products, using gloves and eye protection and preventing skin/eye contact are basic safety practices. Ventilating the work area and following the product’s instructions support both occupational safety and process quality.
