Weicon WEICONLOCK® AN 306-38 retaining compound is an anaerobic industrial adhesive designed to secure cylindrical parts such as bearings, gears, and bolts with a tight fit and high strength. It cures in the absence of oxygen between metal surfaces, offering a “retaining” solution aimed at reducing loosening caused by vibration and micro-movements. Its medium viscosity makes flow control easier during application, while its green color helps create a visually controllable application film. The product is developed by Germany-based WEICON GmbH & Co. KG.

Technical structure and performance profile of the AN 306-38 retaining adhesive
This industrial adhesive spreads as a thin film between surfaces in cylindrical assemblies, supporting a tight-fit effect and is used especially for permanent locking in joints such as bearing/shaft connections. The technical data indicates a medium-viscosity product with a viscosity of about 2,500 mPa·s at +25 °C. Its gap-filling capability is specified as a maximum of 0.2 mm, so correct tolerances and surface preparation are key determinants of performance. On the mechanical side, shear strength is reported in the range of 25–30 N/mm², supporting its intended use for load transmission in cylindrical joints. With its high-strength character that makes disassembly difficult, breakaway torque is given as 35–45 Nm and prevailing (friction) torque as 50–70 Nm. Temperature resistance is specified from -60 °C to +150 °C, and a minimum shelf life of 24 months at room temperature is stated.

Application method and process control for cylindrical assemblies
Application should be done directly and evenly from the package using the dosing tip; it is recommended not to let the dosing tip touch metal, because even very small metal particles can cause premature curing inside the bottle. For press fits and larger cylindrical joints, wetting both surfaces thinly and uniformly is important for film continuity. Parts should be assembled quickly; for slip fits, slight rotation during assembly is recommended to help the adhesive spread better. The part should not be moved until “handling strength” is achieved; this time is typically given as about 5 minutes. Final strength development is stated as 1–3 hours depending on conditions, so assembly tolerances and process temperature should be included in on-site planning. Also, not pouring product that has contacted metal back into the bottle is a critical application discipline for maintaining product stability.

Areas of use, compatible surfaces, and sector-specific scenarios
The product is positioned for “retaining” purposes in cylindrical connections of bearings, gears, and bolts, and corresponds to common scenarios in maintenance and repair such as shaft-hub and bushing-housing joints. For mechanical manufacturing and maintenance teams, it provides an industrial adhesive alternative aimed at reducing loosening and improving assembly stability. It can be considered in gearboxes, pump and fan units, motor equipment, and general power transmission components where permanent securing is needed in tolerance-based fits. The product can also provide a reason for preference in maintenance scenarios involving potential contact with water, supported by its stated suitability for drinking water applications and related approval/guideline information. Its green, fluorescent formulation helps facilitate application control and provides practical visual verification, especially in repetitive maintenance operations.

Surface preparation and critical tips for achieving the right result
For optimum results, it is recommended to degrease and clean the assembly parts; if surface conditions allow, light roughening can also support adhesion. Although the product can be used on “as-received” surfaces in some scenarios, the technical document clearly emphasizes that the cleaner the surface, the better the result. The 0.2 mm gap-filling limit requires correct selection of assembly tolerances as well as proper surface preparation; excessive gaps can weaken retaining performance. Even spreading and fast assembly help form a uniform film layer before curing begins. For process reliability, avoiding heat sources and direct sunlight in storage, keeping the package closed, and preventing metal contamination are considered basic disciplines.
