WEICON B Steel-Filled Epoxy Resin is a steel-filled, two-component epoxy-based casting and repair compound. After mixing, it works with a fluid-to-viscous consistency and is positioned as an industrial adhesive for tasks such as gap filling, mold making, and part reconstruction. By forming a high-strength structure between metal surfaces, it helps eliminate casting defects and surface imperfections. The product is manufactured by WEICON GmbH & Co. KG, Germany.

Steel-Filled Epoxy Repair and Casting Applications with WEICON B
WEICON B is a steel-filled epoxy system developed especially for filling cavities, air voids, and micro-porosity in castings. Its flowable nature is advantageous for precise geometries such as detailed reproductions in model and mold manufacturing, gauge/template production, and fixture applications. For rebuilding heavily damaged steel parts, it supports a repair approach without creating thermal effects compared to welding-like processes. In machine manufacturing, toolmaking, maintenance/repair, and foundry refurbishment, it combines industrial adhesive needs with a focus on “filling + strength.”

Technical Structure, Strength, and Operating Temperature
The chemical base of the product is a steel-filled epoxy resin, and after curing it forms a dark gray structure. Since the mixing ratio is given as 100:7 by weight (resin/hardener), precise dosing is critical for final performance. At +20 °C, the pot life is defined as 60 minutes for a 200 g mixture, providing a comfortable working window for detailed filling and mold tasks. Temperature resistance is specified as -35 °C to +120 °C, and the recommended maximum layer thickness in a single step is stated as 10 mm. As compressive strength is specified at 110 MPa, tensile strength at 21 MPa, and Shore D hardness at 90, a rigid, high-strength result is targeted for metal repairs.

Application Method and Managing the Curing Process
For a successful application, it is recommended to fully remove oil, grease, dirt, rust, and oxides from the surface, and if possible to increase adhesion with mechanical roughening. The mixture is homogenized and applied by pouring into the repair area or spreading with a spatula; the viscous nature supports filling while helping with flow control. Observing the layer thickness limit in a single application step is important for reaction heat and curing stability. Since a curing time of 16 hours is specified to withstand mechanical load, commissioning plans should take this window into account. When used as an industrial adhesive for leak sealing/defect closing and part reconstruction, it should be noted that application discipline directly determines performance.

Compatible Surfaces, Sector-Based Use Areas, and Suitability Notes
WEICON B can be considered for repair and filling on surfaces such as blasted steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, while surface preparation becomes more critical on galvanized surfaces. Typical applications include porosity sealing and surface correction in foundries, bearing seat and housing repairs in machine maintenance, and mold taking and fixturing in tool/template production. In model and mold workshops, a flowable steel-filled epoxy approach provides practicality for tasks such as detailed part copying, measuring gauge production, and tensioning fixture manufacturing. Being identified in supply systems with ISSA and IMPA codes can facilitate stock and procurement processes in marine and industrial service operations. Across these scenarios, the product is positioned as an industrial adhesive solution offering high rigidity and filling capability for metal-focused repairs.
