WEICON WP high-resistance ceramic-filled epoxy system is a two-component epoxy resin system used for coating and refurbishing metal surfaces exposed to heavy wear. Its paste-like consistency improves control on vertical surfaces and makes it easier to build up thickness. It is designed to provide higher protection in areas where wear is caused especially by particles impacting from the side. The manufacturer is WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany), and the product is positioned for industrial maintenance coatings with strong surface bonding in an “industrial adhesive” manner.

Structure and basic process parameters of the WP ceramic-filled epoxy system
WEICON WP is epoxy-based, ceramic-filled, grey in color, and has a paste-like consistency. The mixing ratio is specified as 100:100 by weight and by volume; maintaining this ratio is considered critical for consistent curing behavior and performance. The recommended application temperature range is +15 °C to +40 °C, and relative humidity should be below 85%. At 20 °C, the working time for a 2 kg batch is approximately 30 minutes, so preparing only the amount that can be applied within the working time improves process control. Consumption at 1.0 mm thickness is 2.2 kg/m², and the recommended maximum layer thickness in a single application can be up to 20 mm, supporting rapid thickness build-up for filling and coating work.

Strength profile, wear performance, and temperature resistance
After curing, the mechanical values focus on helping the coating maintain its form under service loads; Shore D hardness is given as 75±3 and tensile strength is about 23 MPa. Adhesion strength is reported as 24 MPa, indicating that strong bonding can be achieved with proper surface preparation using an “industrial adhesive” approach. For wear evaluation, Taber test results (H18, 1 kg, 1000 cycles) are provided as 0.5 g / 0.2 cm³, supporting the product’s role as a wear-protection coating. Temperature resistance is specified from -35 °C to +120 °C, which fits typical operating conditions for many plant assets. In addition, Tg is stated as approximately +64 °C after curing at room temperature and +87 °C after tempering at 90 °C; tempering can be included in process design where higher performance is required.

Curing times and intercoat work planning
At 20 °C, it reaches a recoatable stage after about 7 hours (approx. 35% strength), functional strength after 12 hours (approx. 80%), and full strength after 36 hours. This window helps manage coating work in phases, especially during planned shutdowns. Shrinkage is given as 0.11%, aiming to support dimensional stability in areas where thickness is built up. Since times can shorten with higher ambient temperature and larger mixed masses due to typical epoxy reaction heat, splitting batches is a safer approach for large-area coating work.

Application method, surface preparation, and sector-based uses
For successful results, the surface must be completely free of oil, grease, rust, oxides, paint, and dirt, and blasting to a cleanliness level close to SA 2½ is preferred. A roughness of 75–100 µm is recommended for optimum bonding, helping the epoxy penetrate cracks and surface texture more effectively. In application, working a thin first coat into the surface with crosswise motions is recommended before building up to the required thickness without air bubbles; mechanical anchors such as expanded metal can be used for large voids. The WP ceramic-filled system is used for coating/refurbishment of pump housings, trough/channel surfaces, bunkers and chutes, conveyor parts, valve internal surfaces, and other areas exposed to heavy particulate wear; in these areas, both wear resistance and surface bonding performance as an “industrial adhesive” create value together. An IMPA code 812957/58 is specified for the product, and compatibility with MIL-C-24176 is also stated, supporting traceability in maintenance supply standards.
