Weicon Primer K 200 is a surface preparation primer used on non-absorbent and painted surfaces before applying silicone-based adhesives and sealing products. The product is a synthetic resin-based liquid containing solvent, developed to improve adhesion performance on plastic, metal, and elastomer surfaces. It is especially used as a pre-treatment on surfaces such as ABS, rigid PVC, PA 6.6, FRP, SMC, PUR, and EPDM, as well as on metals including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, brass, zinc, and tin. The manufacturer is WEICON GmbH & Co. KG, based in Germany.
Technical structure and main function of Primer K 200
This product is not a direct adhesive, but an interlayer chemical that helps silicone systems adhere to the surface in a more controlled manner. In the technical data sheet, its base is described as a synthetic resin and solvent-containing formulation; its density is approximately 0.77 g/cm³, and its typical consumption is in the range of 20–40 ml/m². The recommended application temperature is between +10 °C and +35 °C, and the adhesive must be applied to the primed surface within no later than 24 hours. Thanks to this structure, the product is positioned as a process aid that improves bonding reliability, especially on non-absorbent surfaces.
Application method and surface compatibility of Weicon K 200
Before application, the surfaces must be dry, clean, dust-free, and free from grease. The primer should be shaken before use and applied in a thin layer with a clean cloth; afterward, a flash-off time of at least 10 minutes must be observed. According to official technical documentation, after this waiting period the bonding process must be completed within a maximum of 24 hours; if the waiting time is exceeded or the surface becomes contaminated again, the surface should be cleaned and re-primed. For this reason, the product is a suitable surface preparation solution for industrial applications requiring process discipline and repeatable results.
Suitable surfaces and industrial application areas
Primer K 200 can be used in applications such as plastic part assembly, sealing on painted surfaces, metal-to-plastic joints, and the assembly of elastomer-based components. The main sectors where the product stands out include automotive supply industries, body and trim assembly, machinery manufacturing, white goods, electrical panel and enclosure production, composite part applications, and general industrial maintenance processes. Its compatibility with plastics such as ABS, rigid PVC, PA 6.6, FRP, SMC, and PUR, as well as EPDM elastomers and various metal surfaces, makes it flexible for use across different surface combinations. It is especially helpful in reducing surface-related adhesion weaknesses in systems requiring silicone-based sealing and elastic bonding.
Performance advantages and technical evaluation
Among the main advantages of the product are its low consumption in use, broad surface compatibility, and its ability to support adhesion performance in silicone-based systems. Official technical data states a minimum shelf life of 12 months at room temperature, and also includes ISSA Code 75.509.24. In the safety data sheet, the product is classified as a liquid surface treatment chemical; important warnings include high flammability, skin and eye irritation, dizziness when inhaled, and aspiration hazard. For this reason, the product must be used in well-ventilated areas, with appropriate personal protective equipment, and in accordance with the safety data sheet.
