WEICON CBC ABS-Certified Aluminium-Filled Epoxy Resin is an aluminium-filled, two-component epoxy system developed for casting and gap compensation applications. Thanks to its low viscosity, it is highly flowable and helps self-level to form a smooth bedding surface. The ABS Product Design Assessment certification is an important reference for applications where design compliance is required, especially in industrial and marine installations. In such applications, the product is considered with an industrial adhesive approach that provides both filling and high rigidity.
Alignment and Gap Compensation with WEICON CBC Aluminium-Filled Epoxy
The CBC system is designed for supporting, leveling, and backfilling machines and equipment that are difficult to align. By offering a “cast-in-place compensation” approach as an alternative to components such as shims or worn metal plates, it helps maintain direct contact with base plates. Its focus on resistance to vibration and impact contributes to managing the risk of loosening or settling during operation, which is why it is positioned in the industrial adhesive category in many installations. Its nearly shrink-free curing behavior stands out as an advantage that supports maintaining alignment after application.
Mechanical and Thermal Performance Approach of the CBC 3 kg System
After mixing, the system’s pot life is specified as 45 minutes at 20 °C for a 500 g mixture, providing a practical working window for controlled processes such as casting and gap compensation. The shrinkage value is stated as 0.06%, and this low shrinkage helps reduce the risk of void formation beneath the part. Temperature resistance is defined as -40 °C to +160 °C, and +180 °C for short-term exposure, which facilitates planning around equipment exposed to temperature fluctuations. Mechanically, tensile strength is specified as 58 MPa, compressive strength as 80 MPa, and Shore D hardness as 84±3, targeting a rigid, load-bearing fill after curing.
Application Method and Curing Management
For successful results, surfaces being clean, dry, and free of oil is considered critical; dust, rust, moisture, and oil residues can significantly reduce adhesion. On smooth or heavily contaminated surfaces, mechanical preparation by sanding or preferably grit blasting is recommended, and moving to application as soon as possible is preferred. After the resin and hardener are mixed homogeneously, the mixture is directed into the casting area; low viscosity supports flow into the gap and self-leveling. The commissioning plan should consider the stated curing milestones: around 8 hours for interim layer/process strength, mechanical loadability at 12 hours, and final hardness at 24 hours.
Compatible Surfaces, Advantages, and Sector-Based Use Areas
With its focus on good adhesion to blasted steel and concrete, the aluminium-filled epoxy system is intended to create strong bedding around machine feet and base plates. Its resistance approach to oils, fuels, and many chemicals is an advantage that supports maintenance intervals in industrial environments, and as an industrial adhesive it provides both filling and connection stability. In marine applications, it is used for shaft bearings, crane rails, engine/gearbox bedding, and deck-mounted equipment; in industry, it is evaluated for difficult-to-align sub-installations such as pumps, compressors, fan units, gearboxes, and heavy machinery. For projects with ABS certification and classification requirements, it offers a preferable framework in terms of documentation compliance. When used with correct surface preparation and suitable casting geometry, the low shrinkage and high rigidity advantages significantly strengthen industrial adhesive performance.
