WEICON Easy-Mix RK-7100 Structural Acrylic Adhesive is a two-component, methyl methacrylate (MMA)-based industrial adhesive system developed for high-strength bonding. Thanks to the Easy-Mix cartridge design, a 1:1 mix ratio and controlled application are targeted, which can help reduce errors in serial assembly processes. With its high viscosity, it limits run-off on vertical surfaces and enables a cleaner bond line. The manufacturer is WEICON, and the product is positioned within WEICON’s Germany-based industrial product portfolio.
What is the Easy-Mix RK-7100 industrial adhesive used for?
RK-7100 is an industrial adhesive solution designed to bond different materials such as plastics, metals, and ceramics with a focus on high tensile, shear, and peel strength. It is particularly preferred for applications requiring structural (load-bearing/rigid) joints and offers advantages in assemblies exposed to dynamic loads thanks to its impact resistance and residual flexibility characteristics. Its high-viscosity structure makes squeeze-out at part edges more manageable, supporting workmanship quality. Typical use scenarios include plastics technology, metal construction, bodywork/vehicle manufacturing, machine manufacturing, electrical applications, model and mold work, and exhibition/stand structures.
RK-7100 technical properties and strength profile
In this industrial adhesive system, the mixing ratio is specified as 1:1 by weight, and the mixed viscosity is given in the range of 40,000–60,000 mPa·s; these values help keep flow under control. At 20 °C, the pot life (working time) is about 5 minutes; handling strength is defined at around 25 minutes, and progression to a level suitable for mechanical loading is defined at around 60 minutes. Since a curing window of approximately 12 hours is given for final strength, full-load planning should be arranged accordingly. Because the gap-bridging capability is specified as a maximum of 5 mm, it should not be treated as a filler material for very large gaps.
Chemical basis and temperature resistance
The base of the system is stated to be methyl methacrylate, which aligns with the typical fast strength build-up and high-strength character of structural acrylics. The temperature resistance range is given as -55 °C to +125 °C, providing a practical framework for many industrial assemblies operating under variable climate conditions. When selecting materials, the application’s long-term service temperature and thermal expansion behavior should be considered together. In addition, the note that some low-surface-energy plastics can be difficult to bond without special surface treatment is important for evaluating substrate compatibility.
Application method, surface preparation, and process tips
Application is carried out using a static mixer on the dual cartridge; discarding the first approximately 5 cm of adhesive helps support mixing stability as a practical step. The adhesive is generally applied to one surface, and the parts are quickly joined and fixed; due to the short pot life, this approach requires disciplined process flow. For reliable adhesion, surfaces are expected to be clean, dry, and free of oil; if needed, mechanical pre-treatments such as sanding or grit blasting can be used to target higher strength. For storage, keeping unopened packages between +18 °C and +25 °C away from direct sunlight is recommended, and a minimum shelf life of 12 months at room temperature is stated.
