Weicon Rust Protection 2000 PLUS Spray

Weicon Rust Protection 2000 PLUS Spray is a corrosion-inhibiting technical spray coating designed to provide long-term protection against corrosion on metal surfaces. In indoor and outdoor conditions, it forms a barrier layer intended to reduce the risk of rusting, especially when accelerated by weather exposure. Thanks to its aerosol form, it allows maintenance teams to apply it quickly on site. The product is manufactured by WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany).

Structure and protection mechanism of the 2000 PLUS technical spray

This technical spray is positioned as a special surface coating that works with an iron(III) oxide (hematite)-based pigment system. The flaky (layered) arrangement of high-purity iron oxide pigments helps create a tighter protective film on the surface and aims for water repellency. The metal content in the dry film is given as approximately 58%, which supports the barrier character of the coating. Since temperature resistance is defined from -50 °C to +300 °C, it clarifies the usage limits for outdoor applications where temperature changes occur. This structure aims to keep the surface more resistant to environmental effects while preserving the aesthetic appearance in areas prone to rusting.

Application method and drying process

Before application, cleaning and degreasing the surface is critical for adhesion and film continuity achieved with this technical spray. The can should be shaken vigorously for at least two minutes before use and shaken again at short intervals during application. Application is carried out from a distance of about 25 cm in two cross coats to ensure even distribution on the surface. Since the processing temperature range is given as +5 °C to +35 °C, results may vary on very cold or very hot surfaces, so the process should be planned accordingly. The stated touch-dry time of about 30 minutes and full curing time of 24 hours provide a practical time reference for commissioning, transport, or assembly flow.

Coating thickness and consumption planning

For this technical spray, a coating thickness of about 60–80 µm is targeted with 1.5 cross coats. With a stated consumption of 160 ml/m² under the same application approach, it is understood that a 400 ml can can practically cover about 2 m². Because surface roughness, existing rust layers, and application technique can affect consumption, running a small test area on critical parts supports more accurate planning. If a topcoat paint is desired, the 24-hour waiting reference for overcoating should be taken into account.

The product is associated with protective-coating needs for metal parts such as steel structures, iron railings, lattice poles, fences, balcony elements, shutter/door systems, and outdoor lighting equipment.
