Thanks to its liquid consistency, it flows onto the surface and penetrates cracks and surface irregularities; once cured, it forms a hard, metal-like structure. In such applications, not only “industrial adhesive” performance but also casting/leveling capability and wear resistance are critical, so the WR epoxy system offers a practical solution for maintenance and repair processes. The manufacturer is WEICON GmbH & Co. KG (Germany), and the product is positioned within WEICON’s “Plastic Metal / Epoxy Resin Systems” range.

Technical structure and key parameters of the WEICON WR epoxy system
WEICON WR is based on epoxy resin, contains steel as the filler, and is black in color. The mixing ratio is specified as 100:15 by weight and 100:43 by volume; adhering to these ratios is important for consistency in the field. The mixture density is 2.4 g/cm³, and its viscosity at +25 °C is 4000–5000 mPa·s, supporting the product’s free-flowing casting behavior. Consumption at a layer thickness of 1.0 mm is given as 2.4 kg/m², and the recommended maximum layer thickness in a single application is 10 mm. This structure allows the product to function both as an “industrial adhesive” and as a casting/repair resin, filling surface defects effectively.

Strength and performance characteristics
Under proper curing conditions, the WR system reaches high mechanical values such as 46 MPa tensile strength and 100 MPa compressive strength; its Shore D hardness is 83±3. Adhesion performance depends on surface preparation, but tensile adhesive strength is reported as 12 MPa, and lap shear strength on blasted steel can reach up to 12 MPa. Temperature resistance is specified from -35 °C to +120 °C, which supports reliable use in many machine components and plant equipment. Low shrinkage (0.06%) helps maintain dimensional stability in casting and void-filling applications. Where wear resistance is targeted, it can also serve as a durable base layer before final coating.

Curing times and process window
An application temperature range of +15 °C to +40 °C is recommended, and relative humidity should be below 85%. At 20 °C, the pot life (working time) for a 500 g mix is 40 minutes; therefore, it is more controlled to mix only the amount that can be applied within the working time rather than preparing large batches. At 20 °C, it reaches recoatable status after about 5 hours (approx. 35% strength), functional strength after 7 hours (approx. 80%), and full strength after 16 hours (100%); full hardness is stated to develop within 24 hours at the latest. Higher temperatures accelerate curing, while conditions below 16 °C slow the process significantly; if needed, curing can be accelerated with uniform heating (up to a maximum of 40 °C). This clearly defined process window is an important criterion when planning maintenance downtime and selecting an “industrial adhesive.”

Application method, surface preparation, and sector-based uses
For successful results, the surface should be free of oil, grease, rust, and oxides; if possible, a cleanliness level close to SA 2½ should be achieved by blasting, and a surface roughness of approximately 75–100 µm should be created. After preparation, applying the product as soon as possible is recommended to avoid oxidation/flash rust. The components should be mixed at low speed (not exceeding about 500 rpm) for at least 4 minutes without entraining air, and the ratio deviation should not exceed ±2%. For maximum adhesion, applying a thin first coat and working it into the surface with crosswise motions is advised, followed by continuing to build up to the required thickness without air bubbles; the 10 mm limit per single application should not be exceeded. Common uses include shaft repair/recasting, bearing seat casting, and machine/foundation injection or filling work in mechanical engineering and maintenance; filling applications on cutting/drilling tools in toolmaking; and casting and profile milling models in pattern and mold manufacturing. From a safety perspective, since the product may cause skin and eye irritation and allergic reactions, appropriate PPE such as gloves and eye/face protection should be used, and release to the environment should be prevented.

It is a steel-filled, two-component industrial adhesive epoxy system.
